Glasgow Rangers have a huge game coming up against Bayer Leverkusen in the Europa League last 16 tomorrow evening and they have it all to do as they are currently 3-1 down in the tie.
The German side also have three away goals, so this makes it even more difficult for the ‘Gers. Despite the magnitude of the task that they face, recent reports suggest that Steven Gerrard might drop a key player for the game.
According to The Scottish Sun, Alfredo Morelos may not feature in Thursday’s clash with Bayer Leverkusen due to the ongoing rumours and discussions about his future at the club.
The report added that talks will continue over a potential £18m move to Lille; and if this news turns out to be true, then Gerrard might look towards new signings Kemar Roofe and Cedric Itten to lead the line at the BayArena.
This is a very risky decision for Gerrard to make for such a big game. The Colombian has been with the ‘Gers for three seasons after joining from HJK Helsinki for £1.08m, per Transfermarkt. He has scored 77 goals and picked up 30 assists in 138 appearances in all competitions, long since proving himself as an integral figure at Ibrox.
Despite the two new strikers signing for the club, they will only have one day to train with the team before the Leverkusen clash, so it seems a very bold choice if Gerrard were to start with one of them for the Europa League tie.
It is not for nothing that Morelos is attracting interest from clubs around Europe and the manager cannot afford to drop him seeing as the ‘Gers need to score at least three times to stand any chance of making the quarter-finals.
‘Gers fans, would it be a mistake to overlook Morelos for the Leverkusen clash? Let us know your views in the comments below!
