Glasgow Rangers: Charlie Adam slams Alfredo Morelos

Glasgow Rangers: Charlie Adam slams Alfredo Morelos - Rangers News

Charlie Adam has said that, if Glasgow Rangers’ new signing Kemar Roofe was up to speed, Alfredo Morelos would not get into Steven Gerrard’s starting XI.

The Colombia international has been continually linked with a move away from Ibrox this summer – he is even said to have agreed personal terms with Ligue 1 side Lille – but he remains with the ‘Gers and, given that he has 79 goals in 142 matches for the 54-time Scottish champions, he continues to be one of the first names on the teamsheet.

Who scored more goals for the Gers?

So far, he has only scored in one of the four Premiership matches that they have played this season, and Adam believes that it is only due to a lack of alternative fit options that he continues to appear. The ex-‘Gers midfielder told Go Radio (via The Herald):

“I don’t think he’s giving the team what he did last season, and the only reason he’s in the team at the moment is the other lads aren’t up to speed.

“That Aberdeen game, I don’t think he would have played if he had Roofe in or if he had someone else in up to speed because his levels of sharpness isn’t there.

“That will come with games if he keeps playing, he scored against St Mirren so he obviously had to play against Livingston but he got dragged off again. How he walks off the pitch and never shook the manager’s hand and things like that.

“There has been bids, that’s something I do know. At the moment Rangers value him at close to £20m and why would you give up your asset if someone like a Dembele left to go to Lyon for big money, he’s your main man and he scored 50 odd goals in the last two seasons then get as much value as possible for him but if Rangers get the right money they’ll sell him.”

There are certainly questions surrounding the 24-year-old’s form at the moment and his reaction to being substituted against Livingston last Sunday was inappropriate. The ‘Gers deserve more considering the platform they have given him to perform.

Will Morelos still be at Rangers by the end of the transfer window?

He is their star striker, so they will obviously want to demand a big fee, but they must make sure that his presence does not become a distraction in the dressing room. After signing Roofe and Cedric Itten, the ‘Gers already have other centre-forward options in the long run.
