Glasgow Rangers forward Alfredo Morelos had reportedly agreed personal terms with Ligue 1 side Lille but the two sides couldn’t agree on a fee earlier in the summer transfer window.
The latest news has suggested that Lille have come back in with a fresh bid of around £18.6 million which has not been accepted or rejected yet, and Charlie Adam has been discussing whether the club should allow the striker to go.
Speaking on BBC Sportsound, via IbroxNews, about the player, he said: “At the start I was saying get rid of him. He didn’t play well on Sunday [against Hibernian], so you can give him that one game, but I don’t know where they would replace his goals.
“I like Morelos, I think he’s a good player. He’s a disaster waiting to happen at times, but he scores goals, and I don’t know how Rangers would replace his goals if they want to go and win the league.
“The way it is, I think he’ll stay. They need another midfielder and I think they are trying to get another striker through the door as well. There are one or two players that Rangers need, but it’s going to be a tough, tough season.”
There is no denying the impact that the 24 year-old has had since joining the ‘Gers as he has managed to score 82 goals whilst also supplying 31 assists in 145 appearances for the club, per Transfermarkt. He has started this season really brightly as well as he has played seven times in all competitions and picked up two assists and five goals.
Given his importance at Ibrox, the ‘Gers could either hold out for a bigger bid or keep him at the club as he could be very difficult for Steven Gerrard to replace, especially with the Scottish transfer window closing in the next two weeks.
To have scored over a goal every two games for the club shows that he has adapted to this division greatly and that he definitely has the potential to become an even better player when he reaches his peak, so the fact that a Ligue 1 side are interested in him should be no shock.
However that again shows the quality of striker the Gers possess and it would definitely be hard to find a replacement who could perform just as well as Morelos in the SPFL, especially when there is only two weeks left of the transfer window and the SPFL season is already underway.
