Greg Docherty has completed a move from Glasgow Rangers to Hull City.
The 23-year-old has been on the verge of a transfer away from Ibrox ever since Steven Gerrard admitted that, as long as the club received a bid that was acceptable, he would be on his way out of the door this summer. Despite interest from Hibernian, who reportedly made two bids to sign the man who spent the second half of last season on loan at Easter Road, it is the League One side who have won the race. They will pay £400,000 for his services.
Given the Gers paid £671,000 to sign him, this does seem an awfully low price, especially considering his performances. He made just 19 appearances for the 54-time Scottish champions, but he did manage six assists, whilst he scored 13 times and created a further 16 goals in 58 games combined for Shrewsbury and Hibs on loan.
Are you angry with the sale of Greg Docherty?
Gerrard has said he wants another midfielder, whilst the likes of Brian Laudrup believe the Gers need another creative player in the middle of the park to help Joe Aribo deal with the workload. Now, they will likely dip into the transfer market and they may well have to spend seven figures on a new recruit. Perhaps Docherty could have been the man to fill that gap and saved the club money in the process.
