Glasgow Rangers have missed out on the signing of Niklas Dorsch, who has completed a move to KAA Gent instead.
The Gers had been linked with a move for the former Bayern Munich midfielder following an impressive season with Heidenheim in the 2. Bundesliga – the 22-year-old appeared 32 times in the German second tier as Heidenheim missed out on promotion to the country’s top flight after losing on away goals to Werder Bremen in the relegation play-off.
However, he has now completed a move to the Belgian outfit, where he has signed a four-year contract. According to Transfermarkt, Gent have payed £3.15m for his services.
Would you have liked to sign Niklas Dorsch?
Of course, Dorsch would have been a good signing for the Gers, but there is already plenty of competition in the middle of the park in Steven Gerrard’s squad – the boss has already praised Glen Kamara and Joe Aribo for their pre-season form, for example.
A seven-figure sum on a player who would not be a guaranteed starter for the Ibrox outfit would have surely been pushing it for Ross Wilson and co. Perhaps the Gers should be looking to improve their squad in other areas first before signing another midfielder.
