Arsenal have completed the signing of Gabriel Magalhaes from Lille, which may give Les Dogues enough money to complete the signing of Glasgow Rangers forward Alfredo Morelos.
Gabriel had been linked with the Gunners for quite a while, and the deal was finally confirmed on Tuesday. The 22-year-old has signed a long-term contract with the London outfit, and they have reportedly paid £27m for his services.
From a Gers point of view, this could be great news in their attempts to resolve the situation of Morelos. Lille – who are said to gave agreed personal terms with the Gers star – have been hit by FFP sanctions, meaning that they must be clever in the transfer market – they can’t spend money they don’t have. They have already signed Jonathan David so far this summer, for a reported fee of €30m (£26.7m), and so the fee the Gers were looking for may have been too much.
Will Morelos still be at Rangers by the end of the transfer window?
The Ligue 1 side, who will also compete in the 20/21 Champions League, have already received €70m (£62.2m) from Napoli for Victor Osimhen, and now this fee for Gabriel gives them some extra funds to complete a deal for Morelos. Reports have recently stated that Gers and Lille have agreed a fee of €20m (£17.7m) for the Colombia international – Arsenal may have done Steven Gerrard and co a huge favour.
