Glasgow Rangers assistant manager Gary McAllister has told Alfredo Morelos to focus on the Scottish club as speculation surrounding his future continues to mount.
The Colombia international has been linked with a move away from Ibrox in recent weeks, with Everton the most recently mentioned side to be interested in his services. It has even been said that the 54-time Scottish champions expect the 24-year-old to leave the club this summer.
McAllister, though, has warned the former HJK Helsinki that he must remain focused on his current club. He said:
“Alfredo has to be fully aware that he is a Rangers player and he is under contract here. He is part of the team and part of the squad.
“Our only intention at this moment is to get this player up to speed, like every other player at this club, going into the start of the season.
“The fixtures will be announced on Monday and we also have the game with Bayer Leverkusen coming in quite quickly after that and all the squad are working towards those games.
“I don’t think all the speculation is going to go away, but, like any player at any club across the entire globe, when there is a bid arrives that the club thinks is the right bid, then that player tends to go. But Alfredo is a Rangers player.”
From McAllister’s point of view, as well as that of Steven Gerrard, the speculation will be doing them no favours at all. This is a very important season for the club, and for the duo in particular – after two seasons without any silverware, they surely can’t afford to go a third.
Will Morelos be at Rangers next season?
As the former Leeds midfielder says, if the right bid comes in for Morelos, then he will likely go – and, to be honest, that may be the best case scenario. That would take away any distraction, and if the right replacement is brought in, then the blow of losing one of the club’s star players will be softened.
