Steven Gerrard has provided Glasgow Rangers with a triple transfer boost as he has said that he hopes to have Leon Balogun, Joe Aribo and Jermain Defoe available for the Gers’ next game against Dundee United.
All three were missing from the Ibrox outfit’s previous match against Hamilton, but it did not prove to be an obstacle for the 54-time Scottish champions as they saw off their opponents 2-0. Having said that, £900,000-valued Aribo (as per Transfermarkt) has one goal in his first three matches of the campaign and has received praise from Brian Laudrup, whilst £1.26m-valued Defoe (also per Transfermarkt) brings a wealth of experience with him – Gerrard will not be too happy that they have been out of the action.
Added to that, £720,000-valued Balogun helped the side to two clean sheets in the opening couple of matches this term.
Following the clash against Hamilton, Gerrard told Rangers TV:
“I am hoping to have a real selection dilemma when we come back to play Dundee United as I am hoping to have Joe Aribo back, Jermain Defoe and Leon [Balogun] were back in the squad today.
“So that is how we need to be as a squad – it needs to be very difficult to pick 11 and it is at the moment.”
This international break perhaps comes at a perfect time for the trio of players. It seems that none of their issues are serious, and now they have two weeks to recover before the Premiership campaign starts again.
Will Rangers still be top after they play Celtic in October?
The Gers will play Hibernian, Motherwell and Celtic all away from home in their next five games – their title credentials will truly be put to the test. As such, the return of three important players will be exactly what Gerrard is looking for.
