Steven Gerrard has refused to deny that Glasgow Rangers are looking to sign Daniel Johnson during this summer transfer window.
The Gers have been heavily linked with the 27-year-old, who currently plays in the English Championship with Preston North End. Last season, he scored 12 goals and provided a further eight assists in the league, and he could be the man to provide some more creative to the Ibrox outfit’s midfield.
Speaking ahead of the Gers’ Europa League match against Lincoln Red Imps, Gerrard was asked about whether there was any update on the situation involving the Jamaican. He responded:
“No, and I won’t mention any of the targets that we’re pursuing.
“I don’t think that’s right or respectful so I won’t be mentioning any names in here today but again I’ll say that we looking to add to the squad.”
This, in itself, is not too surprising from Gerrard – after all, it is rare to hear managers discuss rumoured targets, even if they are truly interested. However, it is important to note that at no point did the boss decide to rule out a move for £2.52m-valued Johnson – as per Transfermarkt. Not only that, by saying that he won’t mention any of the targets they are pursuing, he all but admits there is an interest in the player.
Would you like to sign Daniel Johnson?
There is still a few weeks of this transfer window left, and Gerrard could well be hoping to talk about Johnson when he is a Gers player.
