Steven Gerrard has said that Borna Barisic is focused on Glasgow Rangers and that has nothing has changed in regards to his future at Ibrox.
The Croatia international has been fantastic for the Gers, particularly last term as he recorded 14 assists in all competitions from left-back, but that has obviously attracted plenty of interest from other clubs. Tottenham were said to be interested in the 27-year-old earlier this year, whilst Leeds have also been mentioned as a potential suitor since earning promotion to the Premier League.
Gerrard, though, has delivered a defiant message, and has attempted to quash any rumours of him departing. He said:
“Borna (Barisic) is focused here and has signed a long contract.
“For all our players that have been performing well I expect a bit of noise but nothing has changed in terms of bids.”
The Gers have reportedly demanded at least £8m for Barisic – it is quite clear that they do not want him to depart and, if he does, they clearly want it to be worth their while. Gerrard does have another option in his position in the recently recruited Calvin Bassey, but he has just one professional appearance to his name so far – he is not yet ready to be become a regular starter.
Will Barisic be at Rangers next season?
As such, keeping hold of Barisic is essential to his attempts to win a first piece of silverware in his managerial career. It will take something special for the Ibrox outfit’s stance to be reconsidered.
