Steven Gerrard has said that new Glasgow Rangers signing Kemar Roofe could be involved in Wednesday night’s match against St. Johnstone.
The 27-year-old recently moved to Ibrox from Anderlecht, with him costing the Gers £4.5m according to Transfermarkt. However, he is yet to appear for the 54-time Scottish champions so far this campaign, and it had been unsure as to when the supporters would get their first glimpse of their new recruit.
Gerrard, though, has suggested he could feature against St. Johnstone. He said:
“Roofe trained yesterday fully for the first time so I need to make a decision about whether he is ready for the squad or not.”
This does not guarantee he will be included in the squad, of course, but it does show that the boss is already needing to decide whether he is ready to call him up. It is very important, though, that Gerrard is 100% sure he is ready to be involved – he has struggled with injuries in recent years and it would be a shame for him to pick up another issue so early into his career north of the border.
Are you excited by the signing of Kemar Roofe?
At his best, Roofe can be a handful – he scored seven in 16 for Anderlecht and 14 in 32 for Leeds in the Championship during the 2018/19 campaign. Gerrard will be hoping he can have a big impact this term.
