Steven Gerrard has provided a positive injury update on Glasgow Rangers pair Leon Balogun and Alfredo Morelos following their match against Dundee United this weekend.
The ‘Gers continued their fantastic early season form with a 4-0 victory, which also helped them keep their spot at the top of the Premiership. However, that was marred by a glut of injuries, with Ryan Jack, Brandon Barker and Morelos all forced off, whilst Balogun could not even take the field after encountering an issue in the warm-up.
Following the match, Gerrard was asked about the injuries, and he gave some good news on Balogun and Morelos. He said:
“I don’t think we can do anything about Alfredo’s injury. It’s an impact injury.
“We think Leon will be fine. We think we got it before it was an injury, it was a bit of tightness and we made the right decision to take him out of the team.
“I think we have come away with two injuries rather than four, but let’s see how the next few days go.”
This is at least a small boost. Balogun was fantastic at the start of the campaign, keeping two clean sheets in his first two matches for the club – although they still haven’t conceded with him out of the side – whilst Morelos is the 54-time Scottish champions’ most dangerous striker, having scored 79 goals in 143 games. With him perhaps on the move soon, this injury should not damage any potential transfer away from Ibrox.
Will Rangers miss Jack and Barker?
However, there appears to be no update on the injuries to Jack and Barker. Gerrard will be hoping that neither of them are out of action for too long.
