Glasgow Rangers have confirmed the loan departure of Jake Hastie, who will move to Motherwell for the 2020/21 campaign.
Hearts had been linked with a move for the winger but, in the end, it is Motherwell who have picked him up.
Ross Wilson said following the confirmation: “Jake needs to keep playing first team football and continue his development. We wanted that learning to come in the Scottish Premiership this season. Our discussions with Motherwell have been positive and we share the same goal to make this loan experience a strong one.”
This was, quite clearly, the best move for Hastie at this current time. Whilst the Jam Tarts are a club with plenty of history and prestige in Scotland, the fact of the matter is they will be in the Championship next season, even if they are currently challenging that in a court of law.
Does Jake Hastie have a future at Ibrox?
Motherwell, meanwhile, finished third in the Premiership last term, which means they have also qualified for the Europa League – if Hastie can muscle his way into the starting XI, he will pick up some valuable first-team experience that would probably not come his way at Ibrox right now.
At 22 years of age, though, this could arguably be his last chance to impress Wilson and Steven Gerrard. It is vital that he takes this huge opportunity.
