Vaclav Hladky has said he was “unlucky” not to join Glasgow Rangers this summer.
The 29-year-old was linked with a move to Ibrox after departing St. Mirren at the end of last season. It looked like he could well be on the way to the 54-time Scottish champions, but in the end it was Jon McLaughlin who was brought in – and he has started fantastically, keeping six clean sheets in his first six matches.
“Rangers tried to get some information but they decided on another goalie. It was between myself and him, maybe one more.
“It was unlucky for me but football is like that. You need luck as well as good performances so when Rangers picked another goalkeeper I had to move on to try and get another opportunity.
“It was nice because it proves your worth. I’m always happy when someone is interested in me, especially these great and big clubs. But it is what it is, maybe in future you never say never.”
The £360,000-valued former U19 Czech Republic international – as per Transfermarkt – did well for St. Mirren last term, keeping 10 clean sheets in 30 Premiership matches, and would have likely been a valuable addition to the Gers squad had Steven Gerrard and Ross Wilson chosen to sign him.
Would you liked to have sign Hladky?
However, McLaughlin has been stunning so far, so they are unlikely to be regretting their decision.
