Brian Laudrup has said that Glasgow Rangers needs to sign another creative midfielder like Joe Aribo.
The Gers have had a good start to the season, winning three and drawing one of their opening four Premiership matches without conceding a goal, but it is no coincidence that the one clash the Nigeria international missed was also the only game in which the Ibrox outfit have drawn a blank. The Gers bossed possession with 79% in that match with Livingston, but they managed a paltry three shots on target.
Writing in his column for The Daily Mail, Gers legend Laudrup says Gerrard should look to add another creative midfielder. He explained:
“I know Gerrard has been speaking about adding another midfielder. That will be really interesting because perhaps they need one who can offer that bit more creativity if Aribo isn’t available. Those players tend to cost, but there will be some out there who could help the squad.”
Laudrup does make a good point – without Aribo, the Gers lack spark. The 24-year-old has averaged three key passes per game this term, compared to Glen Kamara’s and Ryan Jack’s 1.5 and 0.5 respectively, whilst neither of those two have come close to Aribo’s 2.3 dribbles per game.
Should Rangers sign another midfielder?
The Gers do have plenty of time to bring in another player, with the window not closing until October 5th. Should they find someone who can provide the same skills as Aribo, for a competitive price, it is definitely something Ross Wilson should be looking into.
