Former Glasgow Rangers man Andy Halliday believes that the Gers cannot afford to lose Alfredo Morelos.
The Colombia international’s days at Ibrox look numbered – he has been linked with a move away from the 54-time Scottish champions, having reportedly already agreed personal terms with Lille, and he has not started any of the last three matches for the Gers.
However, speaking to Si Ferry’s Keeping the ball on the Ground, Halliday says that the Gers should not sell the 24-year-old. He explained:
“He’s still their best striker.
“If he’s fully fit and fully committed he’s still their best striker. They can’t lose Alfredo.”
It is hard to argue with Halliday about Morelos being the club’s best striker – after all, he has managed 79 goals in 143 matches for the club – but sometimes that isn’t the only thing that matters. Morelos has already indicated that he would be open to moving to a more competitive league, and the fact he has not been included in the first XI recently shows that Gerrard is not too eager to play him given the mounting speculation.
Will Morelos still be at Rangers by the end of the transfer window?
No player is bigger than the club, and having Morelos around for too long if he does not want to be there could give the Gers an unwanted distraction. If the right offer comes in, the Gers must move him on.
