Tam McManus says that Glasgow Rangers need to sign John Lundstram.

The Gers have been linked with a move for the £7.2m-valued 26-year-old (as per Transfermarkt), who has just one year left on his contract at Sheffield United. It has been said that the midfielder wants to finish his deal at Bramall Lane, but that could mean the Ibrox outfit could approach him as soon as January to sign him on a free transfer.

Talking to the PLZ Soccer Show, McManus said that Lundstram is a player Steven Gerrard needs. He explained:

"He was a regular for a Sheffield United team that did superbly well last season. He was in there and playing every week in the middle of the park.

"Steven Davis obviously is coming to the end of his career. He has been a great servant, but I think Rangers will be looking to try and replace him, and get somebody in there besides the likes of Ryan Jack and Glen Kamara.

"So, I think he is what Rangers are needing. Whether they get him just now, who knows. Obviously he is out of contract in a year’s time, they can try and do something, maybe sign a pre-contract."

When Steven Davis does depart - whether that is at the end of this current campaign or beyond that - Gerrard and co will likely be looking to add a new player in his position, and on a free, Lundstram would be an ideal candidate. He appeared 34 times in the Premier League last term as the Blades impressed, finishing in the top half in their first season back amongst the elite.

Convincing him to move to Scotland when he still has plenty of football ahead of him may be more difficult, but if the Gers were able to do so, they would be making a fantastic signing.
