Charlie Nicholas has said that Glasgow Rangers should only sell Ryan Kent if they receive a bid of at least £20m.
The winger has been the subject of intense transfer interest from Leeds United, with the ‘Gers already having turned down a bid of £10m for the 23-year-old. There have been reports that the newly-promoted Premier League side will now return with an offer of £14m, but Nicholas believes that amount is nowhere near enough.
Writing in his Daily Express column (via Glasgow Times), he said:
“Rangers shouldn’t even consider selling Ryan Kent for anything less than £20million. Leeds United are desperate to sign him and you can understand why. He is young and he has talent.
“Some big figures have been mentioned, including last week’s failed £10m bid, but even if Leeds come back in with £14m, I don’t see any value in that for Rangers – they would be short-changing themselves. It is such a big season for the Ibrox club as they try to stop Celtic getting 10-in-a-row. Steven Gerrard’s team are going for title number one – but what a big one it would be.
“So I just can’t see Rangers selling someone they paid £7m for unless they’re made an offer they can’t refuse. And, for me, that has to be £20m-plus.”
The ‘Gers spent £7m on his signature just last year and he has started this campaign fantastically, with three goals in his first five matches. With him having started every league match so far this term, he is clearly a huge part of Gerrard’s plans moving forward.
Would you be happy to see Ryan Kent leave Rangers?
As such, it will take something quite significant to convince the ‘Gers to part ways, but a £20m offer might just do it.
