Kevin Phillips has backed new Glasgow Rangers signing Kemar Roofe to score considerably more than 10 goals in his debut season at Ibrox.
The 27-year-old made the move to Scotland for £4.5m from Anderlecht earlier on during the transfer window, and has so far only made one start for the 54-time Scottish champions. In that match, though, against Kilmarnock, he did score his first goal, and Phillips has backed him to continue to score on a regular basis.
“I expect him to kick on now, he is a player with loads of talent and speaking from personal experience it is always good to get off the mark. No matter what game it is in.
“It will be a huge relief for him. He will kick on now. He is going to get lots of chances at Rangers so I expect him to get well into double figures this season.”
The Gers will certainly be hoping that he can be prolific in front of goal. After all, he has been brought in partly to replace Alfredo Morelos, who looks as though he will be on the move this summer after agreeing personal terms with Lille.
Will Kemar Roofe score at least 10 goals this season?
He managed 14 goals in 32 games in his last season with Leeds, so he certainly has the ability to hit the back of the net. Morelos, though, has scored 79 goals in 142 matches for the Gers – Steven Gerrard will need the rest of his squad to contribute if he is to replace that kind of output.
