They still sit top of the division, but Old Firm rivals Celtic can go above them if they win their game in hand, per SPFL. The campaign is only eight games in so there is still a lot to play for, but for now, the club turn their attention to the Europa League.
The Gers are playing in the Europa League third round qualifiers on Thursday night, and they face Eredivisie side Willem II. Steven Gerrard will be hoping they advance to the playoff round, and if they do, they will take on either Galatasaray or Hajduk Split. Here is the TT predicted XI, which sees Gerrard make only one change for the crucial fixture.
The manager will only make minor tweaks as it was a big game in the Premiership at the weekend, and this upcoming match is just as big or possibly even bigger and he needs to have his strongest starting eleven out.
Goalkeeper Jon McLaughlin has made seven appearances, keeping six clean sheets and only conceding two goals, per Transfermarkt, so he should be in between the sticks again for the game.
Meanwhile the only change TT can see is in the defence, with Leon Balogun replacing Filip Helander. Balogun had a minor injury, but was named on the bench against Hibs and his stats emphasise why Gerrard should throw him straight back into the starting eleven.
The defender has played three games in the Scottish Premiership for the club since he arrived on a free transfer in the summer, and he has picked up an average rating of 7.47, per SofaScore, which is very respectable and his stats show he has been solid as he has averaged two interceptions, 1.3 tackles and 2.3 clearances per game.
Meanwhile with an injury to midfielder Joe Aribo, who managed nine goals and eight assists last season, per Transfermarkt, the Gers will rely on Scott Arfield, Glen Kamara and Steven Davis to control the middle of the pitch. Arfield picked up a goal against Hibs, whilst Davis won five ground duels and Kamara won three, per SofaScore, so Gerrard will be hoping for more of the same in Europe.
Meanwhile up front, there is no way that Gerrard can rest Alfredo Morelos, Ryan Kent, who is 23 and has been linked with Leeds United, or Ianis Hagi, who have eight goals and eleven assists between them in eight Premiership games this campaign, per Transfermarkt. If the Scottish side want to qualify to the next round, then they will need these three at their best.
