Anderlecht striker Kemar Roofe has quashed claims that Glasgow Rangers have made a bid for his services.
It has been reported that the Gers had made a loan offer with an option to buy for the former Leeds United striker, but that was said to have been rejected by the Belgian club. Friday’s edition of Het Nieuwsblad (via Sport Witness) even said that Roofe was spotted in Scotland in order to undergo a medical with the Ibrox outfit.
Speaking to Het Laatste Nieuws, though, the 27-year-old poured cold water on those claims. He said:
“Honestly, I’ve never been to Scotland in my life. Where do they get it?”
“Really? I certainly do not intend to leave Anderlecht. I like the Belgian league.
“You know, I used to play in the lower league in England. There I was often confronted with players who really could not handle the ball (laughs). Defenders only had to be big and strong and that was enough to be successful. At least you have good footballers in every position in Belgium.”
It looks as though Roofe has absolutely no intention of leaving his current club, which would be a blow for Steven Gerrard and Ross Wilson if they do have a strong interest in the player. In 17 matches in all competitions for the club last term, he scored seven goals and provided three assists, whilst he scored 14 times in 32 Championship matches for Marcelo Bielsa’s side during the 2018/19 term.
Would you like to sign Kemar Roofe?
Currently valued at £4.05m by Transfermarkt, he would not have come too cheap, but either way, it looks as though the 54-time Scottish champions will need to look at other targets in their attempts to add firepower to their front-line.
