According to the Daily Mail, Burnley have offered £4m plus Ben Gibson for former Glasgow Rangers defender Joe Worrall.
Worrall, who currently plays for Nottingham Forest, spent the 2018/19 campaign on loan at Ibrox.
He has clearly impressed at the City Ground, with Premier League side Burnley willing to offer cash plus Gibson, on whom they spent £15m in 2018.
Worrall was a divisive player at Ibrox – at times, he was praised for his displays, whilst at others he was widely criticised. One particular error, against Kilmarnock away from home, is somewhat of a defining image of the Light Blues’ failed title challenge that term.
Were you a fan of Joe Worrall?
Since then, however, his stock has clearly risen – so much so that he played every single game in the Championship for Forest in 2019/20. With a Transfermarkt value of £4.95m, the 23-year-old has now become a much sought-after player, and to replace someone who cost as much as Gibson would be a huge step.
It just goes to show that Scottish football may not be quite as poor as many seem to think.
