Glasgow Rangers insider The 4th Official has revealed that Giovanni van Bronckhorst's side now have an 'interest' in bringing Kai Meriluoto to Ibrox.

The Lowdown: Lawrence to sign...

As per The Glasgow Times, the Gers have now won the race to sign Tom Lawrence on a free transfer after he left Derby County at the end of his contract.

He will become their second signing of the summer, having earlier secured a deal for PAOK striker Antonio Colak.

The Latest: Meriluoto 'interest'

Taking to Twitter, The 4th Official has revealed that Rangers now hold an 'interest' in Meriluoto, but he would more likely go into the B team rather than straight into Van Bronckhorst's senior side.

The Ibrox insider posted: "It is my understanding that there is Rangers interest in Kai Meriluoto. However, he would be more of a contender for the 'B' team than the first team as things stand."

The Verdict: Sign

If there is a chance to bolster their Academy ranks, then Rangers should take it, and Meriluoto would appear to be an excellent addition.

Once dubbed 'dangerous' and a player who moves 'exceptionally well' by HJK Helsinki manager Toni Koskela, the 19-year-old has scored 31 goals at youth level and made his senior debut in 2020, scoring once in three appearances for the Finnish club (Transfermarkt).

On loan at fellow Finnish outfit Ilves Tampere, the 19-year-old has managed eight strikes in 15 games this year (Transfermarkt), showing that he knows where the back of the net is.

Meriluoto could follow in the footsteps of fellow striker Alfredo Morelos, who joined the Ibrox club from HJK Helsinki himself in 2017 and has gone on to become hugely prolific for the Light Blues.
