Glasgow Rangers have now been dealt a blow in their hopes of bringing Tom Davies to Ibrox in this window.

The Lowdown: Davies interest

As per The Daily Record, Everton central midfielder Davies is one of a number of names on the list of players sporting director Ross Wilson and Michael Beale could sign for the Gers in January.

Norwich City's Todd Cantwell and Fulham's Josh Onomah are two other names on the shortlist, as the Scottish giants look to scout the English market for potential new recruits.

The Latest: Davies staying

According to Football Insider, Davies is now 'set to stay' at Goodison Park, despite interest from the Light Blues.

There has been 'no contact' between the two clubs over the Englishman, and his Frank Lampard is set to keep hold of him following an injury to Alex Iwobi.

Nonetheless, Davies is out of contract in the summer, and so the Teddy Bears could look to try and sign him on a pre-contract agreement, or snap him up as a free agent once his deal expires.

The Verdict: Sign in summer

Davies is a player Rangers should still be looking to sign for the summer, even though they have been rebuffed in their attempts to try and sign him this month.

Beale has recently sung the praises of the 24-year-old, who he claimed kicked his old Liverpool U23 team 'all around the place', while he also claimed that he has a 'bit of John Lundstram' about him.

That is a high compliment considering that Lundstram is the joint-most used player by the Gers in the Scottish Premiership so far this season, with five goals and two man-of-the-match awards to his name (WhoScored).

On a free transfer, Davies seems like a shrewd signing, but Beale's side may need to reduce his £25,000-per-week Premier League wages to make a deal happen.
