Journalist Dean Jones says that Kemar Roofe's latest injury setback is 'hugely frustrating' for Glasgow Rangers ahead of their Viaplay Cup final clash today.

The Lowdown: 'Slight issue' for Roofe

Speaking after last Saturday's 3-0 win at Livingston in the Premiership, Michael Beale confirmed that the Jamaica striker had a 'slight issue' after the weekend, putting his participation in this afternoon's cup final into doubt.

The forward came off the bench in the second half last week and scored, but he may have picked up an injury in his cameo appearance at Almondvale.

The Latest: 'Hugely frustrating' for Rangers

Speaking to GiveMeSport, Jones has said that it is 'hugely frustrating' that Roofe has picked up another injury ahead of such a big game for Rangers against their bitter rivals Celtic.

The journalist said of the 30-year-old: “If he's injured again, then it is hugely frustrating for everyone at Rangers, and it does make you wonder how the situation turns around.

“He's a great talent, but his injury record really doesn't make for a good read or tell a good story. And it's such a shame because he's such a good player, but it's very hard now to rely on him.”

The Verdict: Such a shame

Unfortunately for Roofe, he has struggled to keep himself fully fit since he moved to Ibrox, missing a staggering 45 matches over the last season-and-a-half through injury.

When he has been on the pitch, he has managed to chip in to good effect, netting twice in six appearances so far this term and reaching double figures in the previous two Premiership campaigns (Transfermarkt).

Rangers journalist Jonny McFarlane even goes as far as to claim that Roofe is the best number nine at the club when he is physically right, but unfortunately the Jamaican has never been able to put a consistent run of games together due to his injury problems.

Nonetheless, the Gers will be sweating on his fitness as kick-off approaches at Hampden Park.
