According to Football Insider, Glasgow Rangers are ready to put Ryan Kent amongst their top earners as they ready new contract talks.
New contract for Kent
Kent has been in stunning form so far for the Ibrox outfit this campaign, scoring five goals and creating a further five in 11 games. That has attracted interest from the Premier League and Leeds United in particular, who had a £10m bid rejected over the summer.
Now, having held on to the 23-year-old, the 54-time Scottish champions are hoping to tie him down to a new deal. In an attempt to do so, they are set to offer him more than £28,000 a week. That would represent a 40%+ increase on his current salary.
Alongside Morelos, Defoe and Tavernier
Undoubtedly, Kent deserves to be rewarded. Not just for his early season form, but also his desire to stay at Ibrox – many would have been easily swayed by the Premier League lights. His determination to succeed with Rangers really does bode well for the future.
Does Kent deserve this new contract?
If he continues to perform at this level, he will no doubt move on to bigger and better things. In the meantime, though, he has a massive role to play in the Gers’ attempts to win a first piece of major silverware since 2011, a role that will be just as important as those of Morelos, Defoe and Tavernier, whose salary he will reach if he puts pen to paper. Steven Gerrard and Ross Wilson will be hoping it is money well spent.
