Former Glasgow Rangers striker now Sky Sports pundit Kris Boyd was left fuming at the decision not to give Phillip Cancar a second yellow in the first half.

The Lowdown: Poor start

The Ibrox outfit got off to the worst possible start in their Scottish Premiership opener, with Joel Nouble giving Livingston the need inside the first five minutes.

There was not much to shout about at all in the first half, although they did force two bookings out of the hosts in Cancar and Sean Kelly.

The Latest: Boyd analysis

Speaking on Sky Sports in his half-time analysis, Boyd thought that Cancar should have received a second yellow card for a mistimed challenge, before he was subbed off just minutes later:

"I don't care what anyone says, that's a yellow card."

The Verdict: Relief

On a different day, Cancar could well have received a second booking, and it would have made it easier for the Light Blues to break Livingston down if the hosts were reduced to ten men.

In the end, goals from Scott Arfield and James Tavernier in the second half eased van Bronckhorst's worries, as his team managed to turn the game around despite playing against 11.

Nonetheless, it would have been interesting to see how the match would have panned out, should Cancar have indeed been given a red card.
