Rangers: Glen Kamara has not made squad vs Napoli -Rangers News

Glasgow Rangers have been dealt an injury setback involving Glen Kamara before they play in the UEFA Champions League tonight.

The Lowdown: Ankle problem

Speaking to the media in his pre-game press conference before his team’s 1-1 draw at Ibrox against Livingston last weekend, Giovanni van Bronckhorst confirmed that Kamara had a ‘problem’ with his ankle, and so did not feature.

However, the Dutch manager was ‘hopeful’ that he could make a return against Napoli.

The Latest: Kamara not in squad

Speaking on Tuesday evening, Van Bronckhorst has now confirmed that Kamara has not made the travelling squad, although he is again hopeful that the central midfielder could return in the Scottish Premiership this weekend:

“Kamara didn’t make it, too soon in his recovery but hopefully back for the weekend.”

The Verdict: Blow

It is certainly a blow for the Gers to be without Kamara in the middle of the park tonight.

Once hailed as a ‘Rolls Royce’ by his former boss Steven Gerrard, the Finland international has plenty of experience in European competition for the Light Blues over the last four seasons, and in the Champions League this campaign, no Teddy Bears player has a higher pass success rate (95.7%) than him.

Kamara is often a calming influence in midfield, and Rangers will certainly need that against a Napoli team unbeaten so far this season.

Nonetheless, the 26-year-old will no doubt be a miss in Naples.
