Transfer expert Dean Jones has dropped an update on reported Glasgow Rangers target Jobe Bellingham.

The Lowdown: Rangers 'keen'

As per TEAMtalk, Rangers are thought to be 'keen' on signing Jobe, younger brother of Borussia Dortmund and England star Jude Bellingham, from Birmingham City in the January transfer window.

However, they will face competition from Newcastle United, Middlesbrough, Sunderland, Nice and Bayer Leverkusen for his signature.

Birmingham may have ‘little choice’ but to listen to offers for Bellingham, given takeover uncertainty at the Blues and the fact that his contract expires in 2024, with manager John Eustace admitting that the central midfielder has had a ‘fantastic season’ so far.

The Latest: 'Worth a try'

Speaking to GiveMeSport, Jones has claimed that going in for Bellingham in January is 'worth a try' for the Ibrox outfit, although he has also heard that a move to Dortmund to follow in his brother's footsteps is under consideration:

“It’s worth a try. I would be surprised if this is the path that Jobe takes, but he obviously has a lot to consider right now.

“And that includes following Jude Bellingham’s path and going to Borussia Dortmund because from what I hear, that is a genuine consideration right now.”

The Verdict: Unlikely...

If European heavyweights Dortmund are also in the competition for his signature, then it is unlikely that the Gers would be able to persuade Bellingham to sign for them instead.

The mega-rich Magpies could also tempt him to a Premier League move, while he looks sure to have other tempting offers come January.

Lauded as a ‘huge talent‘ by Football Talent Scout Jacek Kulig, the teenager has already played 16 times for Birmingham, including 13 appearances so far this term, while he has also represented England 12 times at youth level (Transfermarkt).

Nonetheless, it would be a massive coup if Michael Beale's side are able to lure him to Scottish football.
