Rangers: Gers could lose Cole McKinnon in January -Rangers News

Glasgow Rangers could reportedly lose teenage midfielder Cole McKinnon in the January transfer window.

The Lowdown: Impressing on loan

The 19-year-old is making a good impression on loan at Partick Thistle this season, with two goals and one assist in his first six games in the Scottish Championship (Transfermarkt).

One of those goals came in their recent 2-0 win away to Arbroath, a moment which his manager Ian McCall described as ‘excellent‘.

The Latest: Newcastle bid?

As per The Scottish Sun, Premier League club Newcastle United are now ‘weighing up a bid’ for McKinnon in January, after sending scouts to watch him play for Partick this term.

Rangers rate him highly, but the Magpies are looking to test the Premiership giants’ resolve.

The Verdict: Keep him!

As difficult as it would be to persuade McKinnon to stay when a mega-rich club like Newcastle come calling, Rangers must try and keep hold of him at all costs.

He is a player the Giovanni van Bronckhorst rated highly enough to give him his senior debut last term, where he scored in the 3-1 win away to Hearts on the final day of the Premiership (Transfermarkt).

Should Rangers let McKinnon go?

McKinnon only signed a new contract this summer, so the Light Blues should be under no real pressure to sell him.

If he continues to impress at Partick, then there is no reason why he cannot get more games in the Teddy Bears’ first team next season.
