Former Glasgow Rangers defender Alan Hutton has now backed his old club in their move to try and bring Todd Cantwell to Ibrox.

The Lowdown: Cantwell interest

As per The Sun, the Gers are exploring the possibility of making a move for Cantwell in this window.

They are also open to signing him on a pre-contract agreement, which would see him join in June once his contract at Norwich City expires.

There have even been reports that Cantwell is already in Glasgow for a medical, as Michael Beale looks to make his first signing as Light Blues manager.

The Latest: Hutton backs move

Speaking to Football Insider, Hutton has claimed that Cantwell would fit in nicely at the Teddy Bears, and that this is a deal supporters will be 'hoping' for:

I think he could.

He can play in various positions. He is only 24, he is probably at a stage in his career where he is looking for that change.

When he burst onto the scene everybody thought he was the next big thing, he has quietened down a little bit. But I think he is maybe looking for that change in his career.

I think Rangers is a good platform for him to go and show his talent. It is obviously there but it is about finding the right fit.

I think Michael Beale has shown he can get the best out of young players. So I think it is a signing that the Rangers fans will be hoping could happen.

The Verdict: Get it done

Cantwell has been somewhat of a Transfermarkt).

He has represented England eight times at youth level, and at 24 years of age, has still not reached his full potential.

Hailed as a 'fantastic player' by Beale himself when asked about him in a recent interview, the 42-year-old would have seen what Cantwell is capable of watching him up and close when he was manager of QPR in the Championship, and will feel that he can get the best out of him if he moves to the Teddy Bears.
