The Lowdown: Rangers beat Motherwell
Michael Beale’s side swept away Motherwell with a 3-0 victory on Wednesday night thanks to goals from Morelos, Connor Goldson and Malik Tillman.
The Gers will be taking on their Glasgow rivals Celtic at Ibrox in their next league game on Monday, with a win for the home side closing the gap between the two clubs to six points.
Despite the recent victory in front of their home supporters, Rangers were hit with a potentially damaging blow during the game.
The Latest: Morelos concern
In a recent Twitter post, Campbell had this to say after Morelos was withdrawn on 69 minutes.
“Morelos comes off for Rangers after going down injured. Limped off, which will be a concern for Beale given Celtic on Monday.
“The applause for him as he went off showed that it’s probably the sharpest he’s looked in a while. Small steps but definitely improvement tonight.”
Beale could give no further update in his post-match comments, only saying Morelos “had a bit of tightness” and they hope it’s “nothing serious”.
The Verdict: A blow for Beale
Having not only scored Rangers’ opening goal of the game last night, the Colombian also managed to provide the assist for Tillman’s goal in the second half.
This, and the fact that he has the third-highest rate of goals per shot (0.17) in the squad for this campaign, shows that attacking presence and talent that the 26-year-old has and how much of a nuisance he could be against the Hoops.
Have you been impressed with Morelos' performances recently?
Having played against Celtic 19 times, this is the sort of experience that Beale would presumably be hoping to rely on when Monday rolls around.
Taking into account how neither Kemar Roofe or Antonio Colak were in the squad for the Motherwell game, despite Beale revealing that they were available, their fitness as well as Morelos’ could now be a big concern for the Rangers boss looking ahead to Monday’s big showdown.
