Rangers: Paddy Kenny thinks Ibrox factor could swing Champions League fortunes

Rangers: Paddy Kenny thinks Ibrox factor could swing Champions League fortunes -Rangers News

Rangers could transform their fortunes in the Champions League when they return to the Ibrox for their home games, according to one pundit.

The Lowdown: Awful start

Upon their group stage return last week, the Light Blues suffered a heavy 4-0 defeat at the hands of Dutch giants Ajax in Amsterdam.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s XI went in at half-time 3-0 down, with little hope remaining of a comeback after their 12-year absence from the prestigious tournament.

This 4-0 thrashing followed an embarrassing Premiership defeat to Celtic just four days prior, with the Gers losing by the same scoreline to Ange Postecoglou’s side.

The Latest: Kenny’s claim

Despite Rangers’ couple of poor defeats so far this month, Kenny is backing Van Bronckhorst’s side to bounce back from that disappointment when they welcome teams to Ibrox, starting with Napoli in a rearranged fixture on Wednesday.

Speaking with Football Insider, the former Leeds goalkeeper claimed: “It could affect them. But you have to be able to bounce back from these kinds of results. You can’t sit down and just roll over.

“The Ajax game is away. The next Champions League game is at home, that’s massive, I think that changes everything.

“These two losses have both come away from home and we know what that Ibrox crowd is like. The fact is, those results would not have happened at Ibrox.

“So Napoli, Liverpool and then Ajax back at Ibrox, it will be a different proposition and I think that can make or break their chances of going through.”

The Verdict: Ready for Napoli

Rangers are preparing to face Napoli on Wednesday night at Ibrox after the weekend’s domestic fixtures were postponed.

As seen by the club’s incredible run to the Europa League final last season, the atmosphere at the Gers’ stadium can indeed be a significant factor in any success they enjoy.

With Rangers fans most certainly ready to give their all on Wednesday night, Van Bronckhorst will be urging his squad to make the Glaswegian supporters proud after a difficult few days for the club.
