Rangers: Connor Young becomes fifth Ibrox signing

Rangers: Connor Young becomes fifth Ibrox signing -Rangers News

Rangers have completed another exciting signing with the capture of Hibernian striker sensation Connor Young.

The Lowdown: Gers making moves

Giovanni van Bronckhorst and Ross Wilson made a slow start to the summer window but have now wrapped up four deals, already adding Tom Lawrence and Antonio Colak to youngster Zak Lovelace and the pre-agreed John Souttar.

They are strongly linked with Rabbi Matondo, who is expected in Glasgow imminently for a medical (NOW CONFIRMED), while Malik Tillman is also believed to be a target.

Taking to Twitter on Monday however, journalist Patrick McPartlin revealed that Young would be the next to head to Rangers ahead of that duo, and they have now sealed their fifth piece of transfer business.

The Latest: Another one done

Young has officially signed a three-year deal, per The Daily Record, joining for a five-figure fee which includes a ‘significant’ sell-on clause.

The 17-year-old emerged as an extremely promising talent at Hibs, producing a string of influential performances for their title-winning Under-18s side last season.

He scored 25 goals in total across the 2021/22 campaign, drawing praise for his ‘excellent‘ form from Gers head of academy Craig Mulholland.

The Verdict: One for the future

It is always vital that Rangers plan for the future and don’t only focus on the here and now – signing a player of Young’s ilk means they are doing the former.

Should Rangers start Matondo?

While the teenage attacker won’t come in as a regular under Van Bronckhorst to begin with, he can continue to thrive at youth team level, or even potentially be loaned out elsewhere, and is perhaps seen as the natural replacement for Rory Wilson.

Over time, the hope is that Young matures into the next great homegrown striker at Ibrox, reaching his potential and looking to take his youth performances with him to the senior stage.
