Glasgow Rangers transfer target Dion Sanderson would ‘be a great fit’ for Michael Beale at Ibrox, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

The Lowdown: Wilson’s scouting mission

The centre-back is currently on a season-long loan at Birmingham City, and his performances at St Andrew's have been attracting plenty of interest.

The Light Blues have been credited with an admiration for the Wolves-owned 23-year-old after Ross Wilson scouted him last month, and with no winter recall option available for the Old Gold, the Blues would have to allow any sale to the Scottish Premiership.

The Latest: O’Rourke’s comments

Speaking to GiveMeSport, O’Rourke warned Rangers that they should expect a serious battle in the race for Sanderson’s services, but claimed that he would be the perfect profile of player for Beale's squad at Ibrox.

The journalist said: “I think there’ll be a lot of competition for his signature if Wolves do decide to let him leave on a permanent basis.

“So, it won’t be easy for Rangers, but I think he’d be a great fit for Michael Beale and his long-term plans at Ibrox.”

The Verdict: Perfect candidate

Beale will have no doubt already identified certain players that he wants to sign for Rangers, and if Sanderson is among them - as reports have suggested - he would appear to be the perfect candidate to put pen to paper at Ibrox.

The 6 foot 2 colossus currently averages 2.5 clearances and 1.9 successful aerial duels per 90 minutes in the league (WhoScored), highlighting the rock that he can be at the heart of defence. Those averages would put him among the top five in the Light Blues' squad for both metrics (WhoScored).

Sanderson was previously dubbed a ‘Rolls-Royce’ by his former Sunderland manager Lee Johnson, so it would be a massive coup if the Teddy Bears could get this deal over the line in the coming weeks.
