Former Glasgow Rangers defender Alan Hutton has said that Greg Stewart and Jordan Jones could leave Ibrox before the end of the month.
Rangers duo could be moved on
We are almost halfway through January, but Steven Gerrard is yet to add a single player to his squad.
Speaking to Football Insider, Hutton has suggested that Jones and Stewart could be two players forced out of the door to make way for new arrivals. He said:
“You would think that there would have to be some sort of movement, I think this is a problem most clubs have at the moment, I’m talking England, everywhere.
“They’re normally waiting for that first person to move, to trim their squad, before the movement starts.
“So these players – Jones and Stewart – I think he’d like to trim that squad down but he’ll definitely have his eye on bringing one or two in to bring even more competition to the squad that’s already there.”
Surplus to requirements
Both players are very much on the fringes of this Rangers squad – so far this campaign, they have managed just five appearances in the Premiership between them. Jones has even proven to be more trouble than he is worth, picking up a seven-game ban after breaking coronavirus regulations.
Should Rangers get rid of Jones and Stewart?
Neither would likely bring in a huge amount in terms of transfer fees, and they are not exactly on huge wages, but every little helps in these difficult times. And selling the duo may just add the funds, and create the space in the squad, to help the Gers bring in that one player who could make all the difference between now and the end of the season.
