Rene Meulensteen is shocked that Glasgow Rangers have not made a concrete move for Hibernian’s Martin Boyle.
Boyle could play for Gers
The Gers were previously linked with the winger, whilst Kevin Kyle even said that he could be an eventual replacement for Ryan Kent at Ibrox. However, he extended his contract at the Edinburgh outfit until 2023.
Meulensteen is Australia’s assistant manager, meaning he has been able to work closely with international Boyle, and the former Manchester United coach is shocked that neither Rangers nor Celtic have made a concrete move. He said:
“I’m actually surprised that a club like Celtic or Rangers haven’t come in for him because he’s got so much to offer and is doing really well for Hibs right now.
“Martin’s great – he’s full of beans, hard-working, quick, agile and direct.
“He’s got something special about him, he’s not afraid to run at people and has a heart like a lion.
“Martin has had a few injury setbacks, but personality-wise he never stops smiling. He’s a good guy and a very good player.”
Plenty to offer
Boyle is no doubt a talented player. In 19 games in all competitions so far this campaign, he already has three goals and six assists, and he has also netted twice in three caps for the Socceroos. Throughout his career, he has picked up 79 goals and 67 assists in 360 games – far from a shabby record.
Would you like to sign Martin Boyle?
Given that Kent is the first-choice option for Steven Gerrard on the left-flank with the Gers, it is unlikely that Boyle would be a guaranteed starter, but he would provide Gerrard with top quality back-up if he were to make the move to Ibrox. However, his new contract means the discussion, at least for the short-term future, is a moot point.
In other news, this Rangers star has been tipped to leave the club soon.
