Rangers: Michael Stewart slams Alfredo Morelos - Rangers News

Michael Stewart has hammered Glasgow Rangers star, Alfredo Morelos, following his performance against Dundee United on Sunday.

Morelos under fire

The Gers defeated the Tangerines 2-1 away from home to consolidate their 13-point lead at the top of the Premiership. Morelos, though, was not at his best, and caused controversy when he seemingly elbowed an opposition player and escaped with just a yellow card.

Can you get 10/10 on our random Rangers players quiz? We doubt it...

Talking on Sportscene, Stewart was far from happy with Morelos’ overall showing. He said (quoted via Glasglow Live:

“He’s not the player he was a year ago.

“Before he would be on his toes, the ball would drop to him and he’d smash it into the back of the net.

“You can see the frustration oozing out of him.

“As a striker you go through spells where you can’t score but the problem, I think, with Morelos and for Rangers as a whole he’s not the talisman that he was a year ago.

“I think Rangers as a team could comfortably have him out of the side and Roofe could play at the top. Aribo could come into the side in the area that Roofe is playing in.

“I think the team would actually improve. Morelos, he doesn’t show anything as a team player.

“Before he was such a goalscorer and a real threat. He isn’t the same.”

Same old problems

Unfortunately, this is nothing new on the Morelos front. Regardless of the elbowing incident during the clash, Morelos has been nowhere near as good as he was last term for the Ibrox outfit. For example, during the previous campaign, he managed 29 goals in all competitions, while he has just seven in 21 this time out.

Should Morelos start against St. Mirren on Wednesday?

We can’t ignore his latest altercation, either – that, too, is a recurring theme. The £13.5m-valued Colombia international (Transfermarkt) has been sent off seven times while playing for the 54-time Scottish champions in just over three years. This campaign, Steven Gerrard cannot afford to field players who could potentially let him down. With the likes of Kemar Roofe and Cedric Itten waiting in the wings, perhaps it is time for a big decision to be made.

In other news, this Gers star has been tipped for Premier League success.
