John Hartson has said that Glasgow Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos would be a “nightmare” to play against after he impressed in the Europa League on Thursday.
Hartson praises Morelos
Morelos was in impressive form against Royal Antwerp as the Gers won 5-2 – he scored once and provided three assists.
Speaking on the Sky Sports Football Show (via The Scotsman), the former Celtic striker praised the Colombia international. He said:
“He divides opinion, he’s a little bit unpredictable, but he’s a nuisance and he gets you goals.
“He’s the type of player who backs in, he’s strong. He’d be a nightmare to play against.
“Steven Gerrard is right, he was unplayable last night.”
Morelos clearly likes playing on the European stage – in 49 matches in the Europa League, he has 27 goals, while he has also contributed 16 assists (Transfermarkt). Against Antwerp, he was involved in eight of his side’s nine strikes across the two legs – no player had a bigger impact on the tie than the £10.8m-valued 24-year-old (Transfermarkt).
Was Morelos Rangers' best player vs Antwerp?
As the Gers go deeper into the competition, the quality of opponent will only increase. They will now face Czech champions Slavia Prague, who defeated Leicester in the last round. If Steven Gerrard’s men are to make it to the quarter-finals, they will need more performances like this from Morelos.
In other news, Rangers fans slammed this man vs Antwerp.
