Frank McAvennie believes that Glen Kamara could leave Glasgow Rangers during the summer transfer window.
Kamara could leave
There has been plenty of interest in Finland international Kamara over the past year, with Everton, Benfica (TEAMtalk) and Marseille (France Football) just three of the clubs linked with a move for the midfielder.
Speaking to Football Insider, McAvennie suggested the 25-year-old could leave the club, just like everyone else. He said when asked whether the Gers will struggle to hold on to Kamara:
“I think they might.
“No disrespect to Celtic and Rangers, but if you go to the Premier League, you’re made for life.
“You’re set for life money-wise. You’re secure and if he goes down there and signs a four-year deal, then he’s set.
“Unfortunately, as Steven Gerrard has found out, if you start winning games then teams start looking at your players.
“That’s a good thing. It means that they’re doing the right things and I’m sure Stevie will see it that way as well.
“I don’t think he’ll stand in the boy’s way if he’s got a big offer and everyone’s for sale. But he’ll not let him go if it’s not right for Rangers.
“He’ll not be going anywhere unless there’s a good offer on the table that satisfies Kamara and satisfies Rangers.”
At the age of 25, Kamara is approaching what should be the best years of his career. It has been an important last 12 months for the former Dundee man – he has played a big part in the Gers’ rise to the top of the Premiership, while he also helped Finland qualify for the European Championships for the first time in their history. A solid showing at that tournament this summer will only see the interest in his services increase.
Will Glen Kamara be at Rangers next season?
With two years left on his contract (Transfermarkt) and a value of £10m, according to The Athletic, Ross Wilson and co are at least in a strong position when it comes to the demanding the correct fee. McAvennie is right, though – any Gers player is available for the right price but Rangers won’t be in a rush to push any of their best players out of Ibrox.
In other news, Gers fans love this injury update.
