Kevin Phillips has compared Glasgow Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos to Tottenham superstar Harry Kane.
Morelos compared to Kane
Morelos is the Gers’ most valuable asset at £10.8m (Transfermarkt) and was in impressive form for the Ibrox outfit against Royal Antwerp in the Europa League last Thursday as he scored once and provided three assists.
Speaking to Football Insider, Phillips has compared the Colombian’s change in style to that of Kane at Spurs. He said:
“It is always a tough one because by the media you are ultimately judged by your goals. But, by Gerrard he won’t be. His all-round game will not go unnoticed by his manager. He will always come out and back him.
“Kane is another player who has been dropping deeper and helping in the build up more often this season but he is still scoring a lot of goals. He has scored a hatful this season.
“I remember when I started dropping a little bit deeper and it can affect your numbers, as we have seen with Morelos.”
Change in role
Morelos is playing more for the team this season than he has done in the past. He has amassed 12 assists in all competitions, which has already matched his highest-ever tally for the Gers in a single season. Kane, meanwhile, has 14 assists in all competitions – also his own personal best.
Is Morelos comparable to Kane?
Of course, Morelos has some way to go to match Kane – the £108m-valued England international (Transfermarkt) is one of the best strikers in the world – but the Colombia international’s importance to his side is somewhat comparable to Spurs’ reliance on Kane. The two will be vital to their respective teams’ chances of success for the rest of the campaign.
