Glasgow Rangers fans were left gutted as captain James Tavernier was forced off injured early in the first-half of the Gers’ Europa League clash with Royal Antwerp on Thursday.
The Ibrox outfit were involved in a Europa League classic in Belgium. They came back from a goal down twice to eventually prevail 4-3 and were also given two penalties. The victory gives them a huge chance of making it through to the round of 16 as a result.
However, there was bad news regarding Tavernier. There had been reports prior to the match that he would be unavailable after picking up a knock in training. That speculation proved to be false, but he would end up lasting just 24 minutes before being replaced by Leon Balogun.
Can Rangers cope without Tavernier?
After the match, Steven Gerrard admitted he has issues in regards to Tavernier and Kemar Roofe, who also came off with an injury (The Scottish Sun). In regards to the 29-year-old defender, the Gers fans were very worried, and they took to social media platform Twitter to share their thoughts.
Let’s see what the fans had to say about the Tavernier injury below
“Feel violently sick thinking about Sunday without Tavernier. Can’t even concentrate on this game.”
“What a mental game… Thankfully we’ve come away with a win but the injury to Tavernier is a downer.”
“Football. You just knew with what happened at the weekend something would arise. James Tavernier barely ever injured and tonight gets a knock and off injured. Nathan Patterson meanwhile back home due to his priorities being a night out. Just had to happen.”
“Roofe needs to see the right people and get his reoccurring calf issue sorted for next season, if Tav has done his ligaments he’s out for the season, Tavs injury is a big blow but hopefully makes us unpredictable now in how we attack, just need 5 wins and get 55”
“Brilliant. Gutted for Tavernier.”
“The thought of Tavernier missing the run in to 55 is breaking ma heart a wee bit this morning”
In other news, Rangers fans are livid at this SFA appointment.
