Many Glasgow Rangers fans are delighted after the Daily Record revealed that James Tavernier is ready to open talks with the club over a new contract.

As the Gers have romped to the Premiership title this season, Tavernier has played a huge part. He has led by example in his role as captain and has been crucial at both ends of the pitch. Having conceded just 10 goals (BBC), the Gers have easily the best defence in the Scottish top flight, while the 29-year-old has more goals than any of his teammates with 17, as well as the most assists with 15 (Transfermarkt).

The former Wigan Athletic man's current deal is set to run out at the end of next season, and in an attempt to avoid him leaving on a free transfer, Ross Wilson and Steven Gerrard are set to open talks with the right-back.

The news attracted plenty of attention from these Rangers supporters, who took to social media platform Twitter to share their thoughts.
