Rangers: Halsey drops ‘furious’ Gerrard claim

Rangers: Halsey drops ‘furious’ Gerrard claim - Rangers

Former Premier League referee Mark Halsey has shared that he believes Rangers manager Steven Gerrard is “silently” raging with Alfredo Morelos.

This comes after the Colombia international was handed a three-game ban by the Scottish FA after the Gers accepted a charge over a stamp on Hibernian centre-back Ryan Porteous.

What has Gerrard publicly said about this incident?

In the aftermath of this suspension being handed to the Gers’ most valuable player, Gerrard has publicly declared that he doesn’t think his striker’s actions can be defended, however, the Englishman did also suggest that the SFA are inconsistent with their punishments, indicating that, perhaps, he feels Morelos has been treated more harshly than other players for similar offences.

What has Halsey said about Gerrard’s view behind the scenes at Rangers?

However, speaking to This Is Futbol, Halsey has shared that he thinks Gerrard is far angrier with his player than he is going to let on in public, with the ex-referee sharing that he believes the 40-year-old manager “will be absolutely furious” with the centre-forward behind the scenes.

Halsey said: “I’ll imagine Steven Gerrard is furious. He won’t show that to the outside world, but within the football club and with Morelos he will be absolutely furious because, I mean, he is a good player, he’s a very good player for Rangers – he’s showing too much aggression in the wrong manner and he’s got to curb that certain amount of that aggression so yes, Steven Gerrard will be furious with him silently, but as I say, he fully deserves that charge.”

Transfer Tavern take

This latest incident is not the first violent conduct charge that Morelos has received this term. As a result of that, the 24-year-old will be suspended for one more match than he would if this were his first offence.

You could certainly argue that Morelos, as the Gers’ third-highest league goalscorer this season, is a key man for the Glasgow club even though he has been less impactful this season, and so, even though Rangers lead the Premiership by some distance at present, it may be understandable why Gerrard would be livid with the striker behind the scenes.

In other news, some Rangers fans have been buzzing over their club’s Ofoborh announcement.
