Glasgow Rangers will be very impressed with reported Ibrox transfer target Jerry Yates, according to journalist Pete O'Rourke.

The Lowdown: Rangers linked with Yates

Last month, it was reported that the Premiership giants are one of the clubs looking to sign the striker from the English Championship.

The report from The Sun added that the Premier League duo of Brentford and Bournemouth are also interested in signing Blackpool marksman Yates.

It now appears that O'Rourke has shared some details on what the hierarchy at Rangers could be feeling towards the reported Ibrox target.

The Latest: Rangers must be "impressed"

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the journalist gave his take on the Light Blues' links with Yates.

O'Rourke said: "I think they can only be impressed by his performances. He's been in red-hot form for Blackpool of late, and he's scoring goals at a prolific rate.

"He’s the top goalscorer in the Championship with nine goals. I think he got two goals and an assist against Preston the other weekend as well, so he's in really good form."

The Verdict: A smart target for Rangers

In addition to the nine goals and two assists that the 25-year-old has delivered across his 18 league games for Blackpool this season, as O'Rourke mentioned, Yates also has the third-highest percentage of shots on target (54.8%) in the Championship out of players to have had at least 10 attempts on target.

This highlights how much of an attacking threat he offers and how clinical a figure he is in front of goal.

Bearing in mind how the Ibrox club only have the fifth-highest percentage of shots on target (31.9%) in the Premiership this season, this suggests that a player like Yates - who has been hailed for his "excellent" form this season by journalist Alec Whitaker - could be a very useful prospective addition to Giovanni van Bronckhorst's squad.

It's likely that Blackpool would not want to see their star striker leave the club any time soon, but if an opportunity were to arise for Rangers to sign the player, the Ibrox club must do all that they can to try and secure his signature.
