Rangers defender Leon King is set to sign a new deal at Ibrox, according to journalist and transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

The Lowdown: King's time at Rangers

Having worked his way through the youth ranks at Rangers, the 18-year-old has already made 27 senior appearances for the club across all competitions.

20 of those appearances have come during the current season, highlighting how much of an important figure he already is, despite his tender years.

With the SPFL season set to resume in the coming days, a significant behind-the-scenes update has emerged regarding the Ibrox club and King.

The Latest: King set for new Rangers deal

In a recent Twitter post, Romano reveals we should get confirmation of a deal 'in the next days':

"Important update for Rangers FC. Been told Leon King has agreed new contract valid until June 2026, here we go.

"Scottish top talented centre back is on the list of many top Premier League clubs — new deal in place, to be signed in the next days."

The Verdict: Good news for Rangers

To highlight what the young defender has offered the team this season, King has the third-highest average of clearances per game (1.6) in the SPFL at Rangers.

In addition to that, the Scotsman also has the sixth-highest passing accuracy percentage (88.5%) at Rangers, showing how comfortable he is on the ball as well as off it.

The teenager recently shared his happiness over the short period of time that Michael Beale has had in charge of the club, which could be a clue as to why he has decided to stay put.

Taking all of this into account, it's clear that both Rangers and Beale see King as an important player for them and a long-term figure at the club, making this news a hugely positive start to the new gaffer's reign.
