Rangers: Paddy Kenny drops Alfredo Morelos claim

Rangers: Paddy Kenny drops Alfredo Morelos claim -Rangers News

Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos may remain at the club despite the arrival of striker Antonio Colak, claims pundit Paddy Kenny.

The Lowdown: Colak’s arrival

The Light Blues announced the arrival of Colak at Ibrox last week as he became Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s second signing of the summer (excluding John Souttar, who signed in January).

And having entered the final 12 months of his Gers contract, Morelos’ future with the Scottish outfit perhaps became even more uncertain.

Rangers Review have reported that the club are still in talks with the Colombia international over a new deal, as they have not given up on trying to convince him to remain in Glasgow for the foreseeable future.

The Latest: Kenny’s claim

Kenny, reacting to the news of Colak’s arrival, has claimed that despite the sight of a new forward at Ibrox, Morelos may still remain at the club.

Speaking with Football Insider, the 44-year-old said: “You just never know with things like this.

“Morelos could turn around and say he wants to stay. There also has to be a bid for him. Has anyone offered any money yet?

“I’m sure Rangers don’t want to lose him for nothing but if no one wants to sign him then who knows what might happen.

“It’s a funny one but Rangers have lost a couple of strikers so one needed to come in anyway. We will have to see what happens but I don’t think it’s decided.”

Rangers fans! Do you remember who scored your first league goal of the 21/22 season?

The Verdict: Invaluable to Gers

Since arriving at Ibrox in 2017, the 26-year-old has gone on to score an emphatic 113 goals in 224 games for Rangers.

Even when looking at the striker’s underlying stats, his ‘powerful’ quality is clear to see.

When compared with positional peers across Europe over the past year, Morelos ranks in the 96th percentile for dribbles completed, in the 90th percentile for passes attempted and in the 89th percentile for shots total and assists (via FBRef).

With such quality nearing the exit door on a free transfer, Rangers must do all they can to get Morelos to sign a new contract this summer.
