Rangers: Ally McCoist fumes at Ibrox incident

Rangers: Ally McCoist fumes at Ibrox incident - Rangers News

Rangers legend Ally McCoist bemoaned the supporter who threw a glass bottle on the pitch at Ibrox on Sunday, asĀ Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s Gers fell to a 2-1 defeat.

The Lowdown: Rangers fan mars Old Firm

The Light Blues hosted their bitter rivals on Sunday lunchtime, looking to go level on points with them in a potentially season-defining game.

The Gers suffered a damaging loss, however, despite having taken an early lead through Aaron Ramsey’s goal, and it was a day to forget off the pitch, too.

The start of the second half was delayed because a glass bottle flew onto the pitch and smashed, leading to groundsmen and Celtic goalkeeper Joe Hart trying to clear the mess.

The Latest: McCoist slams fan behaviour

Speaking on Sky Sports‘ commentary, McCoist fumed at the behaviour of the supporter in question: “Dear me, absolute pure stupidity.”

The Verdict: Sad state of affairs

While Rangers vs Celtic games are clearly highly-charged affairs, there is simply no excuse for this type of behaviour and it continues to give football a bad name.

The individual in question deserves to be banned for life for their actions – if such a punishment is dished out, it may make others think again about doing the same.

Hopefully, that person is found and shown up for the troublemaker that he or she is, and it is refreshing to hear a person of McCoist’s allegiance speak so brutally honestly.
