Rangers: Ianis Hagi’s return will be a ‘big, big boost’

Rangers: Ianis Hagi's return will be a 'big, big boost' - Follow up

Glasgow Rangers attacker Ianis Hagi’s return from injury will act as a ‘big, big boost’ for the Ibrox club, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

The Lowdown: Hagi missing for Rangers

The 24-year-old has been ravaged by injury so far this season, only appearing once in the Premiership in an appearance which totalled 18 minutes.

In fact, Hagi hasn’t featured for the Gers since a brief runout against St Johnstone at the end of January, with surgery required on his knee problem and just over a year of action now missed.

Thankfully, it now looks as though the Romanian’s return to the fold is edging closer all the time, in what will be a heartwarming moment for him and the club.

The Latest: ‘Big, big boost’ for Rangers

Speaking to GiveMeSport, O’Rourke talked up the importance of Hagi’s return to Rangers once he regains full fitness following his lengthy convalescence.

The journalist said:

“It will be a big, big boost to get him back. He’s been sorely missed for Rangers in the last year after that long-term knee injury he suffered just over a year ago.

“He was a key player in that side for Steven Gerrard when he was on form and playing well for Rangers, scoring goals and providing assists. They’ve missed his presence in that side.”

The Verdict: Massive boost for Beale

Hagi was a hugely valuable player for Rangers before his injury setback, scoring 15 goals and registering 21 assists in 86 appearances, so the enormity of his return can’t be overstated.

The £21,000-per-week attacking midfielder will add a spark to Michael Beale’s squad, although it is imperative that he isn’t rushed back too quickly after a year out of action, instead being eased in so that he gets back up to speed gently.

Gary McAllister has previously hailed the ‘quality and guile’ that Hagi brings to the Gers, and the 24-year-old might just make a telling impact as Beale’s side look to narrow the gap to Celtic at the top of the Premiership table.
