Rangers: Jordan Campbell reacts to Liverpool’s injury woes

Rangers: Jordan Campbell reacts to Liverpool’s injury woes -Rangers News

Rangers have been boosted by a string of injuries for Liverpool ahead of the Champions League meeting at Ibrox, via The Athletic’s Jordan Campbell.

The Lowdown: Huge game at Ibrox

Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s team host the Premier League giants on Wednesday evening in what represents arguably the Gers’ biggest game of the season so far.

It promises to be a ferocious atmosphere at Ibrox and Liverpool arrive under huge pressure, following a huge drop-off in form by their high standards.

Jurgen Klopp’s men are seriously struggling to maintain the intensity they are so famous for, with injuries also mounting up at the same time.

The Latest: Campbell reacts to injury update

Taking to Twitter, journalist James Pearce confirmed that Joel Matip has joined Trent Alexander-Arnold on the treatment table, with Luis Diaz also among those who are absent:

“Liverpool’s injury problems have deepened with Joel Matip expected to be sidelined for around two weeks by a calf problem. Similar timescale for Trent Alexander-Arnold.”

Campbell then reacted to the news on Twitter, admitting it is a boost for Van Bronckhorst’s men:

“Matip, Alexander-Arnold and Diaz all out for Ibrox. Gomez, Konate and Firmino most likely replacements which, although still quality, is definitely a help when Klopp hinted they may rest some players ahead of City.”

The Verdict: Real chance for Rangers

A year ago, the thought of Rangers coming up against Liverpool would have felt incredibly daunting, considering they looked like winning a quadruple.

Gordon Ramsay

Rangers fans, do you know which celebrities you'll spot at Ibrox? First up, Gordon Ramsay!

They are now looking very beatable, however, with average Premier League teams scything them open and taking points off them at the best of times, so the Gers should believe they can pick up a famous win here given the injury problems in the Reds’ camp.

Liverpool will still go into the game as favourites, but after not performing well enough at Anfield last week, Rangers should sniff blood ahead of an all-British showdown.

For all his defensive woes, Alexander-Arnold is a big miss with his creativity, while Diaz is arguably a world-class winger, so there is no doubt that the Gers’ hopes of victory have been boosted greatly.
